Ode to My First Phone

28th July 2012

Dear my first phone,

Hi, how are you doing these days? I hope you still remember me. I still remember the days that I spent with you. I really miss you.

I was really proud of myself when I had you, which was three years ago. I got you for my 11th birthday present from my parents. You were the latest phone from Samsung at that time. Your official name was Samsung UFO Phone. All my school friends were jealous of me because of you. I really liked the attention. The only disappointing thing about you was that you did not have a touch screen. Nevertheless, I used you for a year and a half. 10 days before my family moved to China, I accidently put you in a washing machine. Forgive me!!! That was the first time in my life that I went through a panic attack. And that was how we broke up.

After I moved to Beijing, he first phone I used was the LG Cookie. It was very revolutionary because it had a touch screen. Though the touch sensitivity was not very good, it was still usable and the design was decent. I used it for two years, but the phone screen got cracked by somehow so I had to buy a new phone.

Since my dad works for Samsung, I bought the Galaxy S2, which was the best android phone available a year ago. It was extremely better than the Cookie. The operating system of the Galaxy S2 was Gingerbread 2.3. It was my lady. I bought her more than 10 cloths, also known as phone cases. Though she was absolutely outstanding, I was very furious because the Galaxy Note came out one month later an my dad bought it right away. Anyways, I seriously could not live a day without the Galaxy S2. With my gorgeous Galaxy, I always showed off to my friends.

After living in Beijing for two years, our family moved to Tianjin. I kept using the Galaxy S2 for one more year. Finally the next generation of the Galaxy S series came out, the Galaxy S3, in two different colors, pebble blue and marble white. Even though I still liked the S2, I could not suppress my strong desire to buy the sensational S3. I persuaded my parents for a week and it was achieved. I am 100% sure that you would also be absolutely amazed by the awesome Galaxy S3. I think it has a special power that attracts everyone cunningly. Currently, it is no exaggeration to say that the Galaxy S3 is my life and everything to me, All my personal data and privacy are on my phone. Basically, it is my compact computer, but with a smaller screen.

Don't feel small in front of them. No matter how much I love them, or how good they are, you will always remain as the first and the most memorable mobile phone I have ever had in my entire life. I really miss you.

Sincerely Yours,

Jae Kim

  1. Your posting reminded me of my first phone!
It is a very good topic since we always bring our phones, so there must be many stories related to it. However I think it would have been better if you concentrated on your first phone and talked about how you felt about it or how you miss it. Your writing is more like a story of all the phones you used in chronological order. Since it is an ode, it is good to put more personal emotion in it.
    Keep up the good work!

  2. While you do a good job of contrasting the phones, you do miss out on the poetic purpose of the writing exercise. Where is the alliteration and symbolism? Try and challenge yourself and reach further with stronger language.
